About Fotomat
The Fotomat kiosk concept began in 1965, and Fotomat Corporation was formed in 1967. Customers could pull up, drop off exposed film, and return after it had been couriered to a local lab for processing. At its height in the 1970s and early 1980s, Fotomat operated more than 4,000 small kiosks across the United States and Canada. For photographers who grew up waiting to see what was on a roll, those distinctive parking-lot booths became part of the ritual of shooting film.
