About Seattle FilmWorks 200

Seattle FilmWorks was more than a film brand—it was part of the mail-order ritual of shooting film in the 1980s and 1990s. The company began offering its own branded 35mm film in 1978, building a business around customers mailing exposed rolls to Seattle for processing and receiving replacement film in return. By the 1990s, Seattle FilmWorks was also experimenting with the future of photography, introducing Pictures on Disk in 1994 and Internet-delivered PhotoMail shortly afterward. This particular 200-speed, 20-exposure cassette design carries a June 1998 use-by date and the familiar “Process SFW-XL only at Seattle FilmWorks” wording—a remarkably specific artifact from the final years when film processing, floppy disks, and the early web briefly overlapped.
