This Yashica T4/T4D trucker hat takes its design directly from the distinctive model lettering associated with Yashica’s compact 35mm point-and-shoot. The oversized YASHICA T4/T4D graphic uses the familiar black, red, and white treatment against the P423 Weekender front, creating a camera reference that photographers familiar with 1990s compact film cameras should recognize immediately.
The Yashica T4 became notable for combining a simple, fully automatic 35mm point-and-shoot body with a Carl Zeiss Tessar T 35mm f/3.5 lens*. Built during Yashica’s Kyocera era, the camera used autofocus, programmed auto exposure, automatic film advance, and a built-in flash—the sort of compact designed to handle the mechanics while the photographer concentrated on the picture. The T4D was essentially the same camera with a data-back function for imprinting date information onto the film.
What was once an unassuming plastic compact has since become one of the better-known Yashica point-and-shoots, with much of its reputation centered on that fixed Zeiss Tessar lens. The design is offered in two P423 Weekender colorways: Graphite with Black Mesh Back and Tan with White Mesh Back.
For photographers who carried a T4, collect compact 35mm cameras, or remember when a sharp fixed-lens point-and-shoot could disappear into a jacket pocket, the model lettering says plenty on its own.
