There are some situations where you need to load up your camera with film and go where the wind takes you so you can get that shot. But you can't get ANY shot unless you're there. We can toil over our camera and lens and film and filter and accessory and bag choices, but the important thing is to just be there.
Thus, one of my favorite photography adages in the history of photography adages: "F8 and Be There."
A quote famously attributed to legendary photojournalist and street photographer Arthur Fellig, otherwise known as "Weegee"--when asked about his photography technique, he would quip, "F8 and be there."
We can dissect all the technical considerations, but the real takeaway here is to just be there, because otherwise, there is no photo!
